This summer looms as a busy one for Manchester City. It is now a well-established fact that Pep Guardiola’s squad does need to be rejigged and regenerated during the upcoming transfer window. In an ideal world, City would be able to complete the majority of their incoming signings before the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. That way Manchester City’s new signings can get a head start on life in a Pep Guardiola side. It would also provide a lift to the Manchester City squad for the tournament in the United States.
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak has now revealed that Manchester City’s aim is to bring in new signings before the Club World Cup. It remains to be seen if that goal can be completed, but it shows that City are aiming to be decisive this summer in rebuilding Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Speaking in his annual end-of-season interview with Chris Bailey on mancity.com, Khaldoon Al-Mubarak has outlined Manchester City’s summer transfer plans. The Manchester City chairman wants City’s incoming signings complete before the FIFA Club World Cup. He also explained that City have identified their top transfer targets for the summer. Speaking about Manchester City’s summer transfer plans, Khaldoon Al-Mubarak explained: “I can tell you today, we have clearly identified who exactly are the targets, in what positions, and we have our clear number one option, our clear number two option. And we’ll go about our business, and it will be very clear, very swift. Our objective is to try to be ready with the new squad for the Club World Cup.”
Based on the words from Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak, Manchester City’s goal for the summer is now clear. They are aiming to bring in players ahead of the Club World Cup. As mentioned above, there is a massive upside to that move.
With Manchester City having an interrupted pre-season due to the Club World Cup, the tournament in the United States can be used as a pre-season of sorts. Especially for any new signings that can arrive at the club before the tournament. An opportunity to get away with their new teammates and play in a big tournament could be a blessing. It could potentially accelerate the adjustment period it generally takes for new signings to adjust to Pep Guardiola’s demands. There is certainly merit to the idea of Manchester City completing their signings before the Club World Cup. It would almost be the ideal summer for the club if it came to fruition.
If Manchester City could sign players such as Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki and others before the Club World Cup it would be the ideal summer window. That is their goal as stated by City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak. Now it remains to be seen if City can be that decisive in the transfer market. Khaldoon Al-Mubarak’s message is a signal of intent from the Manchester City chairman. Now it remains to be seen if City’s goal can be completed.
