Manchester City have officially announced the signing of Jérémy Doku from Rennes- who will join the side in a deal worth around €60m.
The Belgian international- who has signed onto a five-year deal with The Citizens- has expressed his pride on making the move in an interview with the club’s website, stating: “Manchester City are the best team in world football, so to be joining them is something very special for me and my family.”
Furthermore, Doku, who will wear the number 11 shirt at his new side, also highlighted his ambition to improve and grow under his new head coach Pep Guardiola, saying: “I am a young player with so much learning and improving to do. Working with Pep and his staff, and playing alongside these work-class players, will make me a much better player.”
Despite his desire to take his game to the next level, the 21-year-old still comes off the back of an impressive season in Ligue 1, where he racked up six goals and two assists in 13 starts and 29 appearances- catching the eye with his explosive speed and exceptional dribbling ability- traits that will allow him to seamlessly fit in on either wing at the Etihad Stadium.
This form has also continued at the beginning of the new campaign, after the exciting winger put in an excellent display in his sides’ 5-1 victory over Metz, where he scored once and completed nine out of his nine attempted dribbles.
Doku will now join other new arrivals Joško Gvardiol and Mateo Kovačić at the treble winners this season- as they aim to build on last year’s performances and claim a record fourth consecutive Premier League title.
