Manchester City announce Raso departure

Manchester City have announced the news that winger Hayley Raso is leaving the club when her contract comes to an end this summer.

The Cityzens made an official announcement on the Academy Stadium pitch during their end of season awards following this afternoon’s 3-2 victory over Everton in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Raso joined Manchester City from Everton in summer 2021. The Australian international has made 47 appearances for The Cityzens in her two-year spell at The Academy Stadium. Given the level of competition in the Manchester City side this season, Raso has often had to be content with a place amongst the substitutes.

This afternoon’s news comes as no real surprise. Raso was linked with a Manchester City exit this summer as early as January. It is thought that Spanish giants Real Madrid have been monitoring the situation closely in recent months, although it is not known whether the winger is destined for Spain.

Raso made her final appearance in a Manchester City shirt as a late substitute in this afternoon’s 3-2 victory over Everton. She received a personal thank you from head coach Gareth Taylor along with a round of applause from the crowd after the game when the club officially announced her departure.
