According to Ekrem Konur, both Manchester City and Tottenham have joined the race to sign Antwerp’s teenage star Arthur Vermeeren. The 18-year-old central midfielder is also on the radar of Arsenal and Barcelona, with both sides having sent scouts to watch him play in the past year.

The midfielder broke into the first team last year thanks to injury’s, but his performances quickly turned him into a first choice for Mark van Bommel. Vermeeren helped Antwerp to a domestic double, winning their first title since 1957. He made 26 appearances last campaign, scoring once and providing two assists. He started all six of the sides championship play-off games.

So far this season Vermeeren has started all 12 league games, with one goal and two assists already. He has also started all five of the sides Champions League qualifying and group games.
