Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Manchester City now have a deal in principle agreed and in place over the arrival of a new highly-rated goalkeeper.
The Premier League champions are in the process of widespread changes throughout the football club, ranging from their first-team playing squad personnel to alterations due to be made in the hierarchical structure.
The latter relates to information confirmed last Autumn, when Manchester City announced that after 12 seasons in the role, Txiki Begiristain would be replaced by Sporting CP’s Hugo Viana as sporting director at the Etihad Stadium.
A remarkable January transfer window followed that saw the arrivals of Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, Nico Gonzalez, and Omar Marmoush into Pep Guardiola’s first-team, while new signings for the longer-term future of the club were also finalised.
Juma Bah was brought in from Real Valladolid before immediately being sent out on loan to RC Lens until the summer, while Christian McFarlane was signed from sister club New York City FC and was integrated into City’s Elite Development Squad.
Now, off the back of Claudio Echeverri also finally joining following a loan spell with River Plate, the club have their eyes set on the goalkeeping ranks and a rising name from across the Scottish border.
That is according to the information of transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, who reports that Manchester City have now agreed a deal in principle with Scottish side Hibernian for the transfer of talented goalkeeper, Ben Vickery.
It is detailed that a deal is now almost done and set to be signed and sealed soon, with the Premier League champions once again described as ‘building for the future’.
Manchester City have a largely positive track record when it comes to the development of young goalkeepers, with a growing number of names having graduated from the club’s academy and now starring throughout Europe.
Perhaps the best example has come through James Trafford who, after loan spells with Accrington Stanley and Bolton Wanderers, is now the number one at defensive force Burnley in the Championship while being tipped for a big move to Newcastle United in the summer.
Gavin Bazunu has also left City for impressive work at Southampton and now in mainland Europe as well as on the international stage, while Arijanet Muric enjoyed success under Vincent Kompany at Burnley before moving into the Premier League with Ipswich Town.
