Jeremy Doku starred as Manchester City put 6 past Bournemouth in a resounding victory at the Etihad. The 6-1 win continued the treble winner’s stunning form and put them top of the Premier League for now after Arsenal’s defeat at Newcastle. The only sour note of the resounding win was an ankle injury to Erling Haaland who was substituted at half-time.

First Half:

The game began with Pep Guardiola’s side dominating the opening half-hour. They were frustrated by a packed Bournemouth defence. The Cherries defended well for the first 30 minutes. City’s best effort in the opening stages was an Erling Haaland header which hit the post.

City produced a 7-minute burst to effectively kill the contest. Jeremy Doku opened the scoring with a tidy finish to give his side a deserved lead. The Belgian winger played a neat one/two with Rodri to fire his side into the lead. He was again at the heart of City’s second. Doku left Chris Mepham in a daze with his dribbling and provided a simple finish for Bernardo Silva to make it 2-nil 3 minutes later.

The Belgian winger again provided an assist for City’s third as his shot deflected in off Manuel Akanji’s back to give City a 3-nil lead after 37 minutes. The champions would go in at half-time 3-nil up. The only sour note was an ankle injury to Erling Haaland who was substituted at the break.

Second Half:

The treble winners would continue on their merry way in the second half. Phil Foden added City’s fourth after another Doku assist in the 63rd minute. Bournemouth would pull a goal back to make it 4-1 10 minutes later. Luis Sinisterra provided their goal with a quality finish after a fantastic ball from Max Aarons. Pep Guardiola’s side would add two late goals from Bernardo Silva with a sublime chip from another Doku assist. Nathan Ake rounded out the scoring with his City’s 6th late on with a crisp header from Oscar Bobb’s cross to make it an emphatic victory.

Summary:

It was the Jeremy Doku show at the Etihad. He put in a performance that will live long in the memory with his goal and 4 assists giving the European champions the impetus to claim a resounding win.

City’s 6-1 win would be enough for them to finish the day top of the Premier League. Arsenal’s 1-nil defeat at St.James Park saw City retain top spot.
