Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says that the target and ambition for his team is to win as much silverware as possible.

And having kicked off their defence of the Premiership title with wins over Kilmarnock and Hibernian, attention now turns to the League Cup and the visit of Hibernian to Celtic Park this Sunday.Speaking ahead of the tie, the Celtic boss reflected on last season's early exit from the competition and the focus on doing better this time around.

“We were disappointed last season,” he admitted, “but the team’s in a much better place now.

“I look at this season and how we’ve been training and how we’ve been working, and we’ve been able to take that in to games.

‘This is the next game and it’s the most important one and we want to get through.’

“There’s no doubt, we should set that target and want to win every trophy. That’s something we know we have to work very hard to do and that starts on Sunday.”

The Hoops boss is delighted that Adam Idah has returned to the club on a permanent basis, having signed a five-year-deal with the club.

The Irish striker made a crucial contribution to last season's Double success during the six months he spent on loan with the Hoops, and Brendan Rodgers is sure that Idah will continue to be an important player for the Hoops in the months and years ahead.

“I’m absolutely delighted. I’m delighted for him because he’s got huge potential," the manager said.“He showed that last season, and if ever I’ve been relaxed on a signing, it’s this one because I know what his talent is.

‘I think over the next two to three years, he can really flourish and show all the quality that he has.’

“He’s in an environment where he’ll improve and he’s shown that he can deal with pressure and play in big moments.“I’m really excited for him, for the Celtic supporters and for the team that we’ve got someone back who can really help us going forward.”Celtic also released a statement today, clarifying the club's position regarding the upcoming Glasgow derby and the decision not to allocate tickets for away supporters. This decision comes as a result of there being a lack of certainty surrounding whether Celtic supporters will be able to attend the fixture at Ibrox in the New Year, and Brendan Rodgers explained that the Celtic board are fully justified in their position on the matter.“I think the board have made a really good decision,” he said. “The club’s job is to protect the support.

“If there’s not that guarantee come the second fixture then I think it’s only logical that you wouldn’t reciprocate.

‘Celtic have played their part in what they were asked to do. None of this was Celtic’s issue. When you go back to when this all started, it’s nothing to do with Celtic.’

“Celtic gets dragged in to this as being a Celtic and Rangers thing. It’s not. This is a Rangers thing.

“There was an agreement in place for both sets of supporters to come. Celtic have been working on that for a couple of months.

“I know the work that’s gone in to it and the investment to ensure that everything was right for this fixture.

“The agreement hasn’t been upheld so Celtic, rightly, have to defend the supporters and the club.”
