Celtic were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Kilmarnock today (Saturday) as a late David Watson equaliser cancelled out Kyogo’s first-half opener.

And Brendan Rodgers admitted that it was a very disappointing game for the Hoops, both in terms of performance and result.

Speaking after the game, the Celtic manager said: “It looked like we were going to get away with it – a good result but a poor performance – and by the end we got away with neither, so it was very disappointing.

“We just lacked that authority with the ball. We’re under no great pressure but we just complicated the game in our build-up through the pitch from behind and we ended up playing backwards and sideways too much, when you’ve got to have to have that authority and composure to play forward.

“We understand the game model and how we want to play and how we want to get through the pitch as quickly as we can, but we just didn’t progress the game quick enough and like I said we ended up being way too safe.

'Okay, we were winning the game and there’s a little bit of anxiety in the stadium, but you still have to deal with that and I don’t think we dealt with that well enough.'

Next up for Celtic is a trip to Fir Park to take on Motherwell next Sunday, and the manager will be looking for the team to bounce back and return to winning ways.

“I’ve said it before in the build-up to the game, we’re arriving into the stage of the season where it’s all about the mind-game now and that mindset is key,” he said.

“So we’ll go away and analyse the performance today – it was nowhere near the level we would want – and then we have to bring ourselves together again and work on the training field. We’ve got a good week now to prepare for the next game.”
