Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Leicester City and Southampton have all been dealt a potentially major blow as Amad Diallo news emerges from Manchester United.

All four Championship clubs have been credited with a loan move for the young Red Devils star this month. However, so far, none are yet to get a deal over the line.

Man Utd update emerges on Amad Diallo

Now, an update has emerged from Manchester United which would suggest that is going to remain the case for the rest of the January transfer window.

Indeed, as per Simon Jones' Daily Mail report, Man Utd are now looking to keep hold of Diallo this month.

The report claims that since returning to training from a long-term knee injury, Diallo has impressed in training, and now, the club require him as cover for the likes of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony.

Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Southampton and Leicester City dealt blow

The above news must come as a blow to the Championship sides linked with Diallo, given the talent that the player possesses and that they are now set to miss out on.

Having spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Sunderland, the Black Cats actually turned down the chance to re-sign him in the summer, but had hoped to do so in January once he had recovered from injury. That no longer looks like it will happen.

Promotion-chasing Southampton, meanwhile, were reportedly pushing to land Diallo this month, but as yet, no deal has been struck.

Leicester City have perhaps come closest to a deal, at least according to journalist Dean Jones.

Jones recently told GIVEMESPORT that the Foxes thought that they had got a deal wrapped up for Diallo, and were confident it was going to happen, but this proved not to be the case.

As recently as Tuesday evening, Middlesbrough were reported to be winning the race for Diallo, but the player himself soon shot down the rumours on social media.

Amad Diallo's Man Utd future

Whilst Amad Diallo is unlikely to go from outsider to regular starter at Old Trafford, if the above report is true, it does not seem as though he will be heading to a Championship club any time soon, be it this month or perhaps even the summer.

Diallo has only recently returned to Manchester United training, and having reportedly impressed behind the scenes, more first-team appearances will surely come his way.

Following the exit of Jadon Sancho back to Borussia Dortmund on loan, and Facundo Pellistri's forthcoming reported loan move away, Diallo is well-placed in the squad for such an eventuality, which may allow him to finally stake his claim for a regular place in the squad at Old Trafford.

We must not forget, this is a player that United forked out £37 million for when they signed him from Atalanta in 2021, and given he is contracted until 2025, with the potential for a further year, it is well within United's interests to make his Old Trafford career a success.
