Manchester United signing Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy would only happen if Cristiano Ronaldo were to leave Old Trafford, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

There has been some talk about the Red Devils being interested in the 35-year-old, but Jones says any deal depends on the future of Ronaldo.

What is the latest news involving Vardy?

90min recently reported that United and Chelsea are both monitoring Vardy’s situation at the King Power Stadium.

The Englishman is one of Leicester’s best players; however, he is now into the final year of his contract, leaving question marks over his future.

Ronaldo has also entered the last 12 months of his current deal at United and has been pushing for an exit this summer.

As per The Times, the 37-year-old has told the Manchester club that he wants to leave in this transfer window after their failure to qualify for the Champions League.

What has Jones said about Vardy and United?

Jones has suggested that Vardy to United is a possibility if Ronaldo departs Old Trafford before the transfer market closes.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “Vardy to United would only happen if Ronaldo left. It’s not something that’s progressed particularly at all at the moment.

“Vardy’s just got a situation at Leicester that he’s weighing up because of where he sits with his contract right now. It’s not impossible that he leaves Leicester before the deadline.”

Should United sign Vardy?

While Vardy may be turning 36 next year, he is still easily one of the best No.9s in the Premier League.

He scored 15 goals last season to help Leicester to an eighth-placed finish and 15 the campaign prior, so the former England striker still has plenty to offer. In total for the Foxes, he has registered an impressive 164 times in over 380 appearances.

Ultimately, if Ronaldo does end up departing Old Trafford this summer, there would be much sense in bringing in someone like Vardy.

Do you know this obscure Manchester United footballer from the 2000s?

Zoran Tosic Juan Sebastian Veron Chris Eagles Louis Saha

There are not too many proven centre-forwards on the market right now, so the former Fleetwood Town man could be a good stop-gap for United until they are able to find their own Erling Haaland or Darwin Nunez.

That being said, with there not being too much interest in Ronaldo as things stand, everything is pointing towards the Portugal international remaining a part of Erik ten Hag’s squad for the campaign.
