Manchester United will soon ‘present an offer’ to sign Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio, according to Portuguese publication O Jogo.
The Red Devils will likely reinforce their central defensive department with Raphael Varane set to leave the club on a free transfer on July 1.
A right-footed centre-back is the priority for United, but Fabrizio Romano revealed yesterday they are also eyeing a left-footed option.
Inacio was highlighted as a target by Romano. O Jogo has now claimed that United will soon submit a proposal to sign the 22-year-old.
They have earmarked the Portuguese ace as a summer objective regardless of what happens with manager Erik ten Hag’s future.
United were recently linked with an approach for Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande.
The Red Devils could sign him for £38 million as the Portuguese club needs a big-money sale before June 30.
Diomande had a good first half to the season with the Lisbon giants, but he was far from his best during the back end of the campaign.
The Red Devils will have tracked his performances and have probably decided to pursue a deal for Inacio instead.
Inacio’s contract currently has a £51m release clause, but United will be optimistic about signing him for less due to Sporting’s financial issues.
The Portuguese is a quality ball-playing defender with good aerial presence. He likes to clear his lines and has excellent concentration.
Inacio is represented by the same agent as Bruno Fernandes, which should boost United’s chances of landing his signature.
