Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is targeting Benfica star Darwin Nunez.

But the Daily Star says United fear being priced out of a move for Nunez.

Ten Hag has made the Uruguay and Benfica striker one of his main targets as he looks to rebuild the United team. But Benfica have told United it will cost them around £100million to lure Nunez to Old Trafford. This would make him the joint most expensive signing in British football history alongside Jack Grealish.

United believe the valuation is too high for someone who has made less than 60 appearances for the Portuguese outfit. United will not walk away from a possible deal, but have told Benfica to come up with a more realistic valuation. Nunez joined Benfica from Spanish side Almera in 2020 for €24m (£20.4m).

United have had him watched several times and are keen to strike a deal, but will not be held to ransom and are prepared to look elsewhere if Benfica refuse to reduce the asking price.
