Manchester United are interested in signing Cerro Porteno left-back Diego Leon, according to German journalist Christopher Michel.
The Red Devils are keen to strengthen at left-back after Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia struggled with injuries in recent months, and the 17-year-old Paraguayan has emerged as a target.
However, Man United will face fierce competition for Leon, with Arsenal and Manchester City also keen on bringing him to the Premier League.
He has bagged two goals in 11 appearances for the Paraguayan Primera Division club this term – one of those was the winner against Sportivo Ameliano on his league debut.
Despite being a full-back, the Man United target is solid in attack, with his goalscoring instinct and technical skills on the ball some of the qualities which set him apart from his peers.
Leon has continued to attract scouts from top European clubs, and it is widely believed his days in Paraguay are nearly over given his huge potential.
Joining Man United could appeal to the youngster given their status as one of the biggest clubs on the planet, but landing him will not come easy asMan City and Arsenal are equally attractive.
Having established himself as a regular first-team player for Porteno, Leon will be keen to continue at that level going forward, which could influence the decision of where he wants to play next.
The Red Devils never hesitate to hand youngsters a chance if they are good enough, but whether the Porteno youngster can adapt immediately to European football remains to be seen.
A loan move elsewhere to get the best out of him could be needed before he looks to establish himself.
