The first piece of silverware for the season will be handed out on Sunday as Manchester United and Newcastle United do battle at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final.

It is a chance at a trophy for two sides that have gone far too long by their own standards without lifting any silverware. Considering recent form, United are the favourites but Newcastle have been enjoying an incredible season and it is far from a foregone conclusion.

Manchester United vs Newcastle - Carabao Cup final

Man Utd and Newcastle will contest the first piece of English silverware on Sunday. The Red Devils have a strong recent record against Eddie Howe's side, having not lost to the Magpies in any competition since October 2019.

United have also been in better form than the Magpies. They secured progression to the Europa League last 16 on Thursday by beating Barcelona 2-1 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate after a draw at Camp Nou last week. Newcastle, contrastingly, are winless in their last three outings and have a major problem between the sticks.

Nick Pope was sent off in the 2-0 defeat to Liverpool and Martin Dubravka is ineligible having played for Man Utd in the competition earlier this season, so Loris Karius is in line for a first appearance for an English team since the 2018 Champions League final.

Joelinton and Joe Willock are facing late fitness tests, with the Brazilian more likely to be passed fit. Bruno Guimaraes is back, however, having served a three-game suspension.

He'll go toe to toe with compatriot Casemiro, who has missed three domestic games having been sent off against Crystal Palace. The former Real Madrid star was pivotal in United progressing past Barça in the Europa League and has transformed United since his arrival last summer.
