Manchester United U23 manager Neil Wood was impressed with Hannibal Mejbri's effort against Morecambe on Wednesday.
United were humbled by a 4-0 defeat in the EFL Trophy clash, but Wood singled out Mejbri for praise when speaking after the game.
"I think the scoreline flattered them a little bit, I felt we were the team who tried to dominate the game," Wood told MEN Sport after the game.
"We started good and then their first two chances are goals and the set piece, you come to a league team and they thrive off scoring from a set piece. So even though we've gone in at half-time 3-0 down, we gave ourselves a bit of a mountain to climb, I felt we were the ones playing football the right way.
"It's difficult to break down when teams sit off into a 5-4-1 and we've got a lot of young players who are learning to cope how to break that down. So in terms of the result, disappointing yeah, but I thought parts of the performance were quite good.
"We're going to take the positives out of the way we've played. I though Hannibal was really good, started to dictate some of the play."
