Man Utd and West Ham target Sofyan Amrabat.
According to reports, West Ham United have rivalled Manchester United in the race to sign Morocco international Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina.
Amrabat was perhaps hoping that he would have secured himself a transfer by now but he remains at Serie A outfit Fiorentina with just over two weeks to go before the summer window closes.
The centre-midfielder has been linked with several clubs around Europe after he was one of the best players at last year’s World Cup for Morocco, who earned a lot of plaudits as they reached the semi-finals.
FC Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been monitoring him but he is currently Man Utd’s top target if recent reports are to be believed.
The Red Devils have already signed Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund this summer and they are now looking to add another centre-midfielder to their squad.
It was claimed earlier this month that Man Utd have reached an agreement to sign Amrabat from Fiorentina, but it was reported just a day later that he has chosen to sign for Atletico Madrid.
Fiorentina.it are now reporting that West Ham are the ‘only ones’ who have ‘presented an offer that was at least interesting’ to Fiorentina but there is a ‘gap to fill’ before the Londoners can match the midfielder’s €30m valuation.
As for Man Utd, Erik ten Hag ‘would like’ to sign him after they worked together at Utrecht and ‘this is a will shared by Amrabat himself’.
It is claimed that ‘anything can happen’ at this point as Ten Hag ‘must convince’ Man Utd’s bosses to ‘sink the blow’ and finalise the transfer.
It has been reported in recent weeks that Man Utd must offload Fred and Donny van de Beek before they can move for Amrabat.
Fred has secured himself a move to Turkish outfit Fenerbahce, while Van de Beek has been linked with Spanish outfit Real Sociedad.
But in a potential blow to Man Utd, Van de Beek’s move to the Spanish side is now off the table as their president – Jokin Aperribay – cannot see them “incorporating more midfielders” before the window closes.
“I don’t think we will incorporate more midfielders. We have youngsters in whom we trust a lot and we have a commitment at home. Real are not thinking of incorporating two midfielders. At no time has been on the table,” said Aperribay (via Sport Witness).
“There are many youngsters who have done very well at Sanse and are going to do very well in the first team. We have the perfect coach for that last stage of training and also the knowledge of what they can give, and no, the youngsters are going to be present and future at Real.”
