Manchester United's season took an odd turn during the week as they slumped to an unexpected 2-1 loss to Swiss side Young Boys in Europe.

After getting off to a flyer domestically, the defeat in Switzerland came as a bit of a shock, especially after Cristiano Ronaldo gave the Red Devils an early lead in the clash.

However, a red card for Aaron Wan-Bissaka late in the first half changed the entire complexion of the affair, with the underdogs emboldened to really go hell for leather at their storied opponents.

While the loss should prove to be nothing more than a speed bump for what is an immensely talented squad, it did set some alarm bells ringing among the fan base.

Many bemoaned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's lack of decisiveness with substitutions, slamming him for being slow to react.

Now, per a report in The Sun, it would seem that Ole has taken that constructive criticism on board and is preparing to be very decisive indeed.

That is because, according to the report, United are planning a mass clear out - beginning in January, - of up to seven stars at the club, with Ole looking to 'spring clean' in the dressing room.

There can be no questioning that United now boast one of the most exciting squads in England with the likes of Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes, but within the squad are also some oddities.

First on the chopping block, unsurprisingly, is defender Phil Jones.

He is expected to be followed swiftly out of the door by Jesse Lingard, Donny van de Beek, Anthony Martial, Eric Bailly, Diogo Dallot and Alex Telles.

While some of those are absolute bankers to get rid of, there are a few stars in there who United might want to hang on to for a little while longer if they can.

It can never hurt to have added depth and, while none of them are nailed-on starters, the likes of Lingard, Martial, and Bailly can certainly do a job for the club.

On the flip side, Jones has long overstayed his welcome while Van de Beek, who you can't help but feel sorry for, surely has to move to pastures new in order to reignite his career.

With the likes of Jude Bellingham being linked with a move to Old Trafford, and Sancho and Greenwood only posted to get better, we could be looking at a very exciting era.
