Manchester United will perform a post-season review next week before deciding on the club's next steps, including the future of manager Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils managed to ignore the noise surrounding the Dutchman to beat local rivals Manchester City 2-1 in Saturday's FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

Reports claimed Ten Hag would be given the boot regardless of the result after a finish of eighth in the Premier League. He defiantly said he would "go somewhere else and win trophies" after securing the victory that sealed a 13th FA Cup for United and Europa League qualification in the process.

The Athletic write a post-season assessment will take place next week which will include Ten Hag's performance. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to lead the process alongside Old Trafford officials Sir Dave Brailsford, Jean Claude-Blanc and Jason Wilcox.

Other managerial candidates have already been scouted, with Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna one of the frontrunners. Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Frank and Thomas Tuchel are also being considered.

Ten Hag led United to third place in the Premier League in his first season in England, also winning the Carabao Cup. While their performances in the top flight and the Champions League were severely underwhelming this term, Saturday's success in the capital means they have now won two trophies in two seasons.

United approached the Manchester derby with few punters rating their chances of lifting the silverware. However, an early mistake from Josko Gvardiol allowed Garnacho to tap the opener into an open net before Kobbie Mainoo tucked in the second goal from Bruno Fernandes' smart assist.

Substitute Jeremy Doku added fresh impetus for City and pulled one back in the 87th minute to prompt anxiety among United fans, but their side held on for victory.
