Man Utd tipped to sign £60m Arsenal target who would be ‘more valuable’ than Fellaini

Man Utd have been tipped to make a move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana, who is also being linked with rivals Arsenal.

The Toffees paid around £33m to sign Onanan last summer. West Ham were also in the running to sign the midfielder but he favoured a move to Goodison Park.

Everton have endured another poor season as they have been battling to avoid relegation. Onana has been one of their standout performers as he has shone during his debut campaign in the Premier League.

Onana is already being linked with a move away from Everton and he could leave even if they stay in the Premier League.

Earlier this month, TEAMtalk reported that Man Utd are ‘ready to join the hunt’ for Onana.

‘The likes of Arsenal and Newcastle have been linked with Onana, but now United are ready to join the hunt for the 6ft 4in powerhouse. ‘United have been linked with a number of midfielders, including Jude Bellingham, but Onana could be a more attainable target especially if Everton go down. ‘This is partly due to the fact that Scott McTominay could leave the Red Devils this summer. Interestingly, Newcastle are the current favourites to bring him in. ‘Onana is likely to seek a move away from Everton if they suffer relegation and the player is interested in playing at the highest level possible to cement his place in the Belgium squad.’

Journalist Dean Jones has likened Onana to ex-Everton and Man Utd midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

He thinks Onana could prove to be ‘more valuable’ to Man Utd than Fellaini if the current Everton standout follows his compatriot in securing himself a switch to Old Trafford.

“Fellaini probably became a bit of a cult figure in the end at Manchester United, but Onana could be more than that,” Jones told GiveMeSport.

“His all-round game is so good and he’s still got room for growth. I think if they can look into that at the end of the season, it would be a really intriguing one.”

Former Premier League forward Gabriel Agbonlahor thinks £45m is a more realistic asking price for Onana.

“I don’t think he’s worth £65million. He’s got some good attributes, but that’s a lot of money,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“If Everton got offered £45million, I’m sure they’d take it. If they are offered £65m, they’d bite your hand off.

“That money can then be used across different positions on that side.

“Onana is very good at recovering the ball, he can run with it and break up play – but he doesn’t score goals, and his passing range isn’t outstanding.

“He gets games for Belgium, but I just can’t see him being worth £65m.”
