Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has now ‘talked to’ Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot as negotiations continue, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The France international appears to be closing in on a switch to Old Trafford after United and Juve agreed upon a fee for his potential departure this summer.

What is the latest news involving Rabiot?

Fabrizio Romano reported that the two clubs have ‘reached an agreement’ for Rabiot for an initial £15 million, with just one year remaining on the player’s contract.

However, talks have stalled over the personal terms the France international is demanding as it’s claimed he is hoping for a significant par rise should he make the switch to Manchester.

Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claim Rabiot is current on £113,000-per-week and is demanding and increase to £162,000-per-week during talks with the United hierarchy.

The Red Devils’ pursuit is not expected to signal the end of their interest in Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, who has been Ten Hag’s number one midfielder target since his arrival.

And the negotiations with Rabiot and his mother Veronique, who is his agent, could be set to reach a conclusion imminently after United director John Murtough was seen leaving Turin.

What has Jones said about Rabiot?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “Ten Hag’s talked to Rabiot. And not so much to just spell out his vision for him, but also to understand what he wants as a player at this stage of his career.

“Because he left PSG under a bit of a cloud, the move to Juventus hasn’t gone well at all, and he just hasn’t fitted into the system that they play.

“So, he will need to understand from Rabiot, how does he feel he will thrive. He plays pretty well for France, but is that a certain system that gets the best out of him?”

Where would Rabiot fit in at Man Utd?

Rabiot is a box-to-box midfielder who has racked up 54 goal contributions in 369 senior club appearances throughout his career, winning several trophies along the way with both Juve and Paris Saint-Germain.

Should he join Ten Hag’s revolution, it’s likely that he will be competing with Scott McTominay for a place in the starting XI after the Scotsman’s sub-par performance against Brighton.

Following the departures of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, bolstering the engine room was always going to be a priority for United, and they are seemingly close to getting Rabiot through the door.
