Manchester United owners, the Glazers, are unlikely to sell the Old Trafford club for a fee less than £5bn, journalist Dean Jones has suggested to GiveMeSport.

The Red Devils have been up for sale since last November but head coach Erik ten Hag will be keeping focused on matters on the pitch.

After 17 years at the club's helm, the Glazer family are now prepared to sell Manchester United and the Old Trafford outfit could have new owners in place come the summer transfer window.

Last month it was revealed that the head of chemical company INEOS Sir Jim Ratcliffe had entered the race to purchase the club, with the 70-year-old being one of Britain’s wealthiest people at a net worth of £9.8bn.

Meanwhile, it has also been reported that private investors linked to the Qatari royal family are considering making a bid for United next week, but the Middle East buyers are not expected to overpay for ownership of the Manchester giants.

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport last month that American interest in purchasing the Premier League outfit should be expected and Jones now believes that “a lot is going for United” in terms of finding a new buyer.

What has Jones said about Man Utd?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “While some people have kind of raised their eyebrows at the idea of a £5bn sale, it seems that’s going to be what's needed to get this to go ahead. Chelsea’s sale was less than that, but this is one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“They have a status that is above and beyond almost everyone. In terms of an investment opportunity in sport, something like this rarely comes along. So, I think a lot is going for United here.”

What next for Man Utd?

For now, Manchester United head coach ten Hag will just be hoping for a solid conclusion to the current campaign, with his side currently sitting third in the Premier League.

The Red Devils are still competing in all three cup competitions they have entered this season and are set for a Carabao Cup final appearance with Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium later this month, in what will be the Red Devils’ first opportunity for silverware since 2017’s Europa League triumph.

In ten Hag they have an exciting head coach at the helm who has a vision for the club, so United may feel that they’ve never been in a more attractive position under the Glazer’s ownership to get as much money as possible in a potential sale this year.

Therefore, it looks to be that this could just be the beginning of another exciting period in United’s history.
