The Glazers are still weighing up bids from Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim and INEOS founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe with Man Utd fans in the dark about how close a takeover is to going through.

The Man Utd owners first indicated they could sell by initiating a strategic review last November but the bidding process has dragged on.

There have been suggestions that Sheikh Jassim’s bid for 100 per cent of the club is the most likely to be accepted with the Qatari desperate to get the deal done before the end of the transfer window.

Despite those rumours, British billionaire Ratcliffe indicated earlier this month that he “would still very much like” to be the new owner of Man Utd with his offer remaining on the table.

Ratcliffe said: “We obviously can’t say too much because we’ve signed an NDA and we respect that but there’s still a process and we’re in the process.

“We have a good offer – we’ve met the Glazers a couple of times and we had a good conversation but at the end of the day it’s their decision… we would still very much like to do it.

“I also believe we would do a good job and do it for the right reasons. We keep very focused on it.”

Man Utd supporters have staged numerous protests against the Glazers’ ownership of the club and now Beckham just wants the takeover “resolved” as soon as possible.

Beckham told The Athletic: “Off the field, as a fan and ex-player, I just want it resolved.

“There has to be a decision (regarding the ownership). Whoever is running your club, you want them to be passionate, be involved, make the right decisions, bring in the right players and invest in the club.

“Because the club does need investment, whether it’s the training facility, stadium, on the field… these kinds of big things need to be made and changes do need to happen, especially when you see the likes of Man City and what they’re doing.”

When asked if it is time for the Glazers to leave Man Utd, Beckham added: “I think so. I think it’s purely because the fans want it.

“Once you lose the fans, especially at a club like Manchester United, it’s hard to get them back.

“Obviously, they (the Glazers) have achieved a lot, and financially, the fact we’re even talking about the numbers of what Manchester United will sell for shows the success they’ve had. But there needs to be change. We’ve all seen that, we all know that.”
