According to reports, Man Utd made an improved offer to Atalanta for striker Rasmus Hojlund during their talks with the Serie A outfit on Friday.

The Red Devils have been busy this summer as they have already spent big fees to sign Mason Mount and Andre Onana from Chelsea and Inter Milan respectively.

They have now turned their attention to signing a new striker. While Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane was on their radar earlier this summer, Hojlund has now emerged as their top target.

The young attacker grabbed ten goals and four assists in his first 34 appearances for Atalanta last season following his move from Sturm Graz.

Atalanta reportedly want around €80m for their prized asset. Man Utd and PSG have both submitted bids for him but their initial offers fell away short of the Serie A side’s asking price.

On Friday afternoon, journalist Alfredo Pedulla claimed via Twitter that Man Utd‘s “final bid” for Hojlund will be submitted “between Friday and Saturday”.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has since revealed that “Manchester United improved their bid to Atalanta during direct talks today and it will be more than €60m package.”

He added: “Understand negotiations are still on — Man United want to close the deal ASAP to focus on other positions right after. Hojlund, very clear. He wants United.”

He said: “We make progress, yeah. But you know how it works – when we have him, we will tell you directly.

“The only thing I can say is we do everything that’s in our power to get that done.

“If it was up to me, yeah, as soon as possible. The earlier the better because we have to integrate him in the team, the way of play.

“In an ideal situation, he was already here but you do not always get ideal situations as a manager and you have to deal with the situation.”

After United’s 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in midweek, Ten Hag reiterated that they need to find a way to “score goals”.

“There were two things – the pressing can be better from the start, and scoring goals.

“I think we need more players who are capable to be in the one-on-ones and we had the situations of one-on-ones.

“It was (Marcus) Rashford, it was, I thought, Scott McTominay in one-on-one situations. Garnacho, a one-on-one situation. From the situations, you have to score.”
