According to reports, Portugal international Bruno Fernandes has rejected interest from Saudi Arabia as he is only interested in staying at Man Utd.
One of the major trends of this summer’s transfer window is players securing big-money moves to Saudi Arabia. Since Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Al Nassr, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly and Ruben Neves have followed him to the Middle East.
Liverpool midfield duo Fabinho and Jordan Henderson are also likely to move to Saudi Arabia, but they will not be joined by Fernandes.
The 28-year-old has emerged as one of Man Utd’s most important players following his move to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in 2020.
Fernandes netted 14 goals in 59 outings last season and he is among the candidates in the running to become United’s new captain after Erik ten Hag decided to take the armband away from Harry Maguire.
Now transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is reporting (via Caught Offside) that Fernandes has committed his future to United despite being offered a “super lucrative two-year deal” by a club in the Saudi Pro League.
Romano claims Fernandes “only wanted to stay at Man Utd” so this offer was “impossible to accept”.
” I can reveal that Bruno Fernandes had very huge proposals from Saudi Arabia,” Romano told Caught Offside.
“One of the two bids was for a super lucrative two-year deal, his salary was going to be x3/x4 the current one. But he only wanted to stay at Man United, he wants to win at Man United. It was impossible for him to accept.”
Fernandes has rejected a switch to Saudi Arabia, but David De Gea could soon be playing in the Middle East. The goalkeeper is without a club after United decided to part company with him following the expiry of his contract.
Football Insider are reporting that ‘De Gea is in talks to join a Saudi Arabian club following his Man Utd exit’. They add.
‘The Spanish international’s agent Jorge Mendez is currently working to get what will be a “huge money” deal over the finish line. European clubs are also still interested in attaining the services of the goalkeeper on a free transfer. ‘But Saudi clubs are currently the sides that are pushing with an offer of much higher wages and that appears the most likely next move in the Spaniard’s career. ‘United confirmed on 8th July that De Gea has left the club after his contract expired following a 12-year tenure at the club. Football Insider revealed on Friday (30 June) that United U-turned on De Gea’s contract as he didn’t have the full trust of manager Erik ten Hag.’
