Manchester United are set to step into a new chapter with Ruben Amorim making his managerial debut against Ipswich Town today.
Ahead of the clash, Bruno Fernandes said Amorim knows he will need to hit the ground running at United.
He said to Sky Sports: “Expectations are really high at this club every time, and patience is something that doesn’t work in football.
“It’s still the beginning but you can see already what he’s about and how much intensity he wants to put in every training session. But then him and his staff are really strict, but at the same time open.
“They came to one of the biggest clubs in the world, they know the expectation is going to be high, some people will doubt, others will think that he will do everything straight away and be brilliant, so he knows what people are expecting.
“Obviously, not everyone starts, not everyone plays, but everyone’s going to be involved, and he wants everyone to feel the same attention and the same desire to win.”
The Red Devils have lacked discipline over the last decade, and a ‘strict’ approach from the new coaching staff is much welcomed.
The current United squad is still incapable of fighting for the league title, but it is far better than languishing in 12th spot.
The team have clearly underperformed this season, and Amorim must improve them.
Fernandes has already taken that step up under Ruud van Nistelrooy. He is expected to be a key player in the manager’s 3-4-3 formation.
The £54 million-rated star could be one of the two players behind the striker or feature in the midfield base.
Amorim has a big task ahead of him, possibly the biggest challenge of his career.
