The centre-backs were injured in the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea last week, with the summer returnee replacing the Frenchman at half-time following his injury.

Evans only lasted 20 minutes due to a muscular injury, and manager Erik ten Hag will hope to have both players back as soon as possible as Man United look to secure a Champions League berth for next season.

Varane is not expected back in action until next month, while the Northern Ireland international could be available for the FA Cup semi-final game against Coventry City next weekend.

Victor Lindelof and Lisandro Martinez have already been ruled out for a month, while left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia remain unavailable as Man United’s defensive injuries worsen.

Ten Hag will have to stick with the centre-back pairing of Harry Maguire and Willy Kambwala until further notice.

The teenage defender will be desperate to make the most of this opportunity having impressed against Chelsea and Liverpool.

Injuries have been a recurrent theme at the Old Trafford club this term, with only a handful of the first-team stars managing to escape visits to the treatment room since the beginning of the campaign.

With the FA Cup and a Champions League spot still to play for, Man United need their best players available. Ten Hag will be praying for better news in the coming weeks.
