Amorim spoke to the reporters ahead of the Premier League clash and backed Mason Mount to succeed at the Theatre of Dreams.

He said (via ManUtd.com): “First thing, he is working really hard, and then you have to understand he is human also. He wants this really bad, and that is the most important thing.

“He proved to all of you that he is a talented player. He was also a European champion, and we believe a lot in him.

“He has to stay fit, like all the guys in the team – they are quality players, but they have to improve and believe in themselves.

“Today (vs Bodo/Glimt) he did a great job, and you see in some moments and details that you can see that Mason Mount is a proper footballer.

“We believe a lot in him, and I especially believe a lot in Mason Mount.”

Mason Mount could thrive under Ruben Amorim

Not many United players have played in a 3-4-3 formation in their careers, but Mount starred in that set-up during his Chelsea days.

Mount started for the first time under the new manager against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday.

The 25-year-old came close to scoring but his fine shot hit the crossbar.

He displayed tenacity with his relentless running without the ball which impressed the United supporters.

His clever backheel pass to spot Manuel Ugarte’s run helped to set up the decisive goal.

His encouraging display earned a robust 7/10 in our player ratings and a ‘chest-bump‘ from Amorim after he came off.

Injuries have severely limited his game-time at United. However, he could play a vital role for the club if he can remain fit and available.

The £29 million-rated star possesses the necessary traits Amorim would like from his attacking midfielder.

His excellent ball control and ability to navigate through tight spaces could make him Amorim’s favourite.

However, with games coming thick and fast, Mount must be rested against Everton.

Bruno Fernandes should slot into the number ten spot, with Mount coming off the bench in the second half if required.
