Manchester United suffered a potential injury blow during a thumping 3-1 FA Cup victory over Reading, with Christian Eriksen being forced off with an ankle problem.

Eriksen found himself on the receiving end of a nasty tackle from Andy Caroll, a constant threat to Man Utd players’ health before picking up a red card midway through the second half.

Casemiro could consider himself lucky for avoiding a serious injury following Caroll’s brutal challenge on him, which earned him the second booking and his marching orders.

However, the Denmark international wasn’t as fortunate as his midfield colleague, as he had to limp off the field in pain just before the hour mark following a nightmarish scissors kick from behind.

Ironically, Caroll didn’t pick up a card for his reckless tackle on Eriksen, which only encouraged him to go on a rampage, threatening to sideline other Man Utd stars.

Though referee Darren England rescued the rest of Erik ten Hag’s line-up by sending the former Liverpool flop off, it was too little too late for Eriksen.

A concerning footage of the 30-year-old hobbling out of the Red Devils’ training ground, posted by a fan on Twitter this morning, has raised fears that he may be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

He is pictured wearing a grey protective boot and using two crutches as he exits the stadium in distress after being caught by Caroll.

The ex-Tottenham Hotspur playmaker will undergo a scan to determine the extent of the damage.

Eriksen has been an omnipresent figure in ten Hag’s starting XI this season, recording 18 Premier League starts and establishing himself as a core part of the Dutchman’s double-pivot.
