Manchester United signing Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe is "not impossible" if the Red Devils are taken over, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The Glazers are considering selling the club, who have been linked with Mbappe in the past.

Man United takeover news

Unsurprisingly, there is a lot of interest in United, though CBS reporter Ben Jacobs recently told GMS that it is unlikely that Twitter and Tesla owner Elon Musk will make a move for the Premier League outfit.

As per BBC Sport, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, who runs one of the biggest banks in Qatar, has confirmed that his foundation will submit a bid for United.

Should a takeover be completed and the new regime at Old Trafford decide they want a marquee signing, perhaps Mbappe is a name that they do look at.

Back in November, the Daily Mirror claimed that United had identified the forward as a potential replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo and suggested that he could cost around £150m.

What has Dean Jones said about Kylian Mbappe and Man United?

If United are taken over by a person or consortium with deep pockets, Jones is not ruling anything out.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "They are actually in with a small chance of winning the title, so it's a very intriguing one. At the moment, signing Mbappe is impossible, but if there was a big takeover, then it's not impossible."

Who else could Man United sign?

The forwards who United have recently been linked with are Tottenham's Harry Kane and Napoli's Victor Osimhen, who are probably more realistic options than Mbappe.

A report from The Telegraph suggests that the Red Devils will try and sign one of the two in the summer.

A No.9 is a priority for Erik ten Hag following Ronaldo's departure. The Dutchman did bring in Wout Weghorst last month, but he only arrived on loan and is obviously not on the same level as someone like Kane, for example.

The England captain is easily one of the best strikers the Premier League has ever seen, recently reaching the 200-goal mark in the competition, as shown on Transfermarkt.

Tottenham are not going to want to sell him, though, while you would also expect Napoli to be reluctant to part ways with Osimhen.

Whatever the case, be it Kane, Osimhen or Mbappe, with the France international being the dream, United need to sign an elite forward ahead of the 2023/24 season.
