Man Utd see ‘opening bid’ for defender turned down | OneFootball

Manchester United have seen an ‘opening bid’ to Kieran Trippier rejected by Atletico Madrid, with the Spanish side demanding a fee of €40m for the full-back.

United are interested in bringing the England international back to the Premier League after two seasons in Spain, with Trippier having impressed since signing for Atletico in a £20m deal from Tottenham.

The 30-year-old made 28 league starts as Atletico were crowned La Liga champions in 2020/21, providing six assists for Diego Simeone’s side and missing only the fixtures in which he was suspended for breaching betting regulations.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified the defender as a player who could add a different option to his squad, with Trippier comfortable in both full-back positions and capable of providing a greater attacking threat than established right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

According to the Guardian, the Red Devils have seen an initial bid rejected by Atletico however, who are holding out for a fee of €40m (£34.4m) for the star who is currently with Gareth Southgate’s side at Euro 2020.

Trippier was born in Bury and came through the academy system at Manchester City, establishing himself during his time at Burnley before a four-year spell with Spurs.

United also remain in negotiations with Borussia Dortmund over a deal for Trippier’s England teammate Jadon Sancho, while veteran goalkeeper and former Red Devils academy graduate Tom Heaton is expected to sign a short-term deal as cover after passing a medical.
