CR7 the hero as United come back from the dead

Scorers: Rashford 53′, Maguire 75′, Ronaldo 82′; Pašalić 15′, Demiral 29′

Manchester United came from 2-0 down at half-time to pull off another Champions League great escape at Old Trafford.

Atalanta took the lead when a quick free-kick freed Davide Zappacosta down the right and his low cross was touched home by Mario Pašalić in the middle.

It was soon 2-0, when Merih Demiral out-jumped Harry Maguire from a corner to head past David de Gea.

Into the second half and United pulled a goal back, when Bruno Fernandes played Marcus Rashford in behind the Atalanta defence with a super pass, and the England striker did the rest.

The hosts kept up the pressure and with 15 minutes remaining they got their reward, when a cross evaded everyone and found captain Maguire to lash home at the back post.

And a few minutes later the comeback was completed in dramatic fashion, when Cristiano Ronaldo leapt high to head home superbly for 3-2.

Injury worries for Chelsea in comfortable victory

Scorers: Christensen 9′, Jorginho (p) 21′, (p) 57′, Havertz 48′

Chelsea had an easy night at Stamford Bridge but will be sweating on the fitness of two key players.

Timo Werner went close to an early goal for the Blues but it was Andreas Christensen who opened the scoring when he shinned it home from close range after Malmö had failed to clear their lines from a corner.

Chelsea then went 2-0 up when Romelu Lukaku was fouled in the box and Jorginho converted the resulting penalty. Lukaku had to go off injured as a result, however.

Things then got worse for Thomas Tuchel’s side when Werner also had to hobble off just before half-time.

And it was the two substitutes – Callum Hudson-Odoi and Kai Havertz – who combined for the third goal early in the second half, with the later finishing delicately past the goalkeeper.

Chelsea then went 4-0 up when Antonio Rüdiger was brought down in the box and Jorginho again made no mistake from the penalty spot.

Juventus leave it late to win in Russia

Scorers: Kulusevski 86′

A late goal from substitute Dejan Kulusevski extended Juventus’ 100% record in the Champions League this season.

The Bianconeri finally broken the deadlock very close to the end, when Kulusevski headed home from Mattia de Sciglio’s cross.

That result leaves Max Allegri’s side top of Group H.

Late flurry sees Bayern defy VAR to win

Scorers: Sané 70′, 84′, Everton Soares OG 80′, Lewandowski 82′

Bayern Munich were eventually comfortable victors in Lisbon despite having two goals disallowed by VAR.

Robert Lewandowski thought he’d given Bayern the lead just before half-time but after a VAR check, the goal was ruled out for handball.

Bayern then had another goal disallowed early in the second half, when Thomas Müller tapped in a rebound after Leroy Sané’s shot had come back off the goalkeeper, but VAR chalked it off for offside.

The goal finally came with 20 minutes remaining and Sané was the scorer with a stunning free-kick, before Bayern went 2-0 up courtesy of an own goal from Benfica’s Everton Soares.

Lewandowski then tapped in to make it 3-0, before Sané bagged his second of the game to complete a rampant late rout.

Stalemate in Lille

Sevilla made it three draws from three games to move up to second in Group G.

Lille are up to third in the group on goal difference after Wolfsburg were beaten by leaders Salzburg earlier in the evening.

Early and late goals earn Villarreal the victory

Scorers: Elia 77′; Pino 6′, Gerard Moreno 16′, Alberto Moreno 88′, Chukwueze 90+2′

Villarreal came out on top in a thoroughly entertaining game on that artificial pitch in Bern.

The Yellow Submarine took an early lead when Yeremi Pino nipped in at the back post to finish off Alfonso Pedraza’s excellent cross.

It was soon 2-0, with Gerard Moreno heading in from Dani Parejo’s free-kick.

Meschak Elia then pulled one back for Young Boys to make things interesting, before goals from Alberto Moreno and Samuel Chukwueze wrapped it up late on for the visitors.

From earlier …

Piqué the hero as Barça get first win

Scorers: Pique 36′

Gerard Piqué scored the only goal of an uneventful affair to give Barcelona their first Champions League points of the season.

Luuk de Jong twice went close early for the Blaugrana before Piqué took it upon himself to open the scoring as he stayed forward following a corner and volleyed home a deep Jordi Alba delivery.

That proved to be the only goal of the game, moving Barcelona off the bottom and within a point of second-placed Benfica.

Salzburg youngsters give Wolfburg the run-around

Scorers: Adeyemi 3′, Okafor 65′, 77′; Nmecha 15′

Salzburg’s newest crop of star youngsters Karim Adeyemi and Noah Okafor did the damage as they punished poor defending to swat Wolfsburg aside.

Germany’s next big thing Adeyemi gave them the lead after just three minutes, zipping in to win the ball ahead of the lackadaisical Kevin Mbabu and coolly finishing for his third Champions League goal.

It lasted just 12 minutes though as, after surviving a Salzburg attack which hit the bar, Lukas Nmecha glanced a header into the corner following a corner from the right.

But two pieces of disastrous defending from corners in the second half from Wolfsburg saw Okafor claim two of the easiest goals he’ll score in what looks to be an exciting career ahead.
