Manchester United ‘really like’ Napoli striker Victor Osimhen as manager Erik ten Hag looks to continue his ongoing revolution, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport.

The Red Devils are currently short of options upfront and are believed to be scouring the market for a suitable centre-forward ahead of the summer window reopening for business.

Manchester United transfer news – Osimhen

United brought in Burnley striker Wout Weghorst on a six-month loan deal during January to fill the void that the departed Cristiano Ronaldo left behind.

However, according to ESPN, Weghorst is only seen as a short-term fix for Ten Hag’s charges, and they are in fact targeting Osimhen, Harry Kane and Benjamin Sesko.

The Mirror have since stated that fellow Premier League outfit Chelsea have joined the race for Osimhen, though, meaning United could face fierce competition for his signature.

It’s believed that Napoli value the Nigeria international at around £100 million, and they have already shown that they are not afraid to splash the cash in the transfer market.

Osimhen still has two and a half years left to run on his contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, and he is likely going to be one of the most in-demand players ahead of next season.

What has Jacobs said about Osimhen?

When asked about United’s interest in Osimhen, Jacobs disclosed that United are just one of several sides eyeing up a move for him and that he will cost any potential suitor a significant sum.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “Obviously, with Osimhen, there's going to be a variety of clubs that try their luck.

“Manchester United are another team that really like him, so we have to wait and see on the player who's very settled at Napoli, but there'll be no value deal there.

“There'll be no cut-price deal there, every goal that Osimhen scores, his value is rocketing. So, that will be a tough one, I think, to pull off, but it's that kind of profile.”

Do Man Utd need Osimhen?

Centre-forward has been an area of weakness for United for several years now with the likes of Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Odion Ighalo, Romelu Lukaku, and Radamel Falcao all failing to make their mark.

At present, Anthony Martial has played well when fit, but persistent injury issues have restricted him to just six Premier League starts this season.

Osimhen, therefore, could be the solution to United’s long-term issues in the final third of the pitch, adding substantial firepower to Ten Hag’s options in the final third of the pitch.
