Manchester United's Donny van de Beek celebrates scoring

Manchester United have reached an agreement with French side Lorient over a season-long loan deal for Donny van de Beek, according to reports.

The Red Devils are looking to move some players on before they can bring in their final transfers of the summer window with Van de Beek and Scott McTominay potential sales.

Back-up goalkeeper Dean Henderson is expected to be revealed as a new Crystal Palace player later today with the Red Devils set to receive £15m plus £5m in add-ons.

There have been rumours that Bayern Munich are interested in McTominay but Van de Beek is more likely to leave with the Dutchman making 15 Premier League appearances over the last two seasons for Man Utd.

Van de Beek, who spent part of the 2021-22 season on loan at Everton, used to play under Erik ten Hag at Ajax and it was thought that the Man Utd manager might revive his career at Old Trafford.

However, Van de Beek has struggled more than ever to get into the starting XI and Foot Mercato insist that French club Lorient ‘are on the lookout to lure the player into their net’.

The report adds that Lorient have ‘started discussions with Manchester United with a view to a one-season loan’ and have ‘reached an agreement on the main lines of the operation’.

There is one ‘problem’ for Lorient, though, with Foot Mercato claiming that the midfielder has ‘several offers’ on the table with the Ligue 1 side fearing he might choose a ‘more ambitious club’.

One midfielder who could be heading to Old Trafford is Ryan Gravenberch with the Bayern Munich midfielder seen as another option if Man Utd fail to get a deal over the line for Sofyan Amrabat.

And the Daily Mail claim that Gravenberch is ‘hoping for a move to either Liverpool or Manchester United to go through’ before the transfer deadline on September 1.

The report adds: ‘A formal offer has still to be received for Gravenberch but the 21-year old’s agents have spoken to both Liverpool and United as they hope for a quick solution.’

There has been more bad injury news for Man Utd as they announced today that Raphael Varane will be out for “a few weeks” and will miss their match against Arsenal on Sunday.

A club statement read: “Raphael Varane will be missing from the team when Manchester United face Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday due to injury.

“The France international came off at half-time in our 3-2 win against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday due to the complaint, which is expected to keep him out for a few weeks.”
