Man Utd will reportedly have to pay €70m to sign Randal Kolo Muani from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in January or the summer.
United are bound to be linked with a fair few strikers over the next few weeks as it is common knowledge that they want to strengthen in that area of the pitch.
This comes as Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure leaves them with just Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford to choose from up front.
Erik ten Hag has even openly acknowledged that they “need players” in that department.
“I think we have a squad, we have players who are matching our criteria,” Ten Hag said just before the New Year.
“But all the games are coming. It’s a tough competition, in all the leagues, we want to be also in all the leagues and keep playing in all the leagues and in the cups as well.
“So we need players and we need numbers to cover. So we need good players, not just the numbers, we need quality players to cover. And also we need competition and we need to know also that we can make tactical choices.
“So we are looking for the right player for our squad, but it has to match our sporting criteria, definitely, but also some financial criteria.”
It has recently been reported that Man Utd are interested in Muani. They are said to be preparing a €60m offer for the forward.
The 24-year-old joined Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer in the summer and he has netted eight goals across all competitions this term. He also scored once for France at the World Cup in Qatar
Fabrizio Romano is of the belief that Frankfurt value the forward at €70m.
‘Manchester United have been linked with a number of strikers, and the latest is Randal Kolo Muani,’ Romano wrote for Caught Offside.
‘Still, in January it is more than difficult for any club – there is no intention from Eintracht Frankfurt to sell the player, and his price tag is around €70m.
‘I think Kolo Muani alongside Jonathan David is one to watch for the summer.’
Muani is not the only French Bundesliga star they are being linked with as they are also reportedly admirers of Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram.
Late last month, it was suggested that
Thuram has ten goals and five assists in the league this term and he is out of contract in the summer.
United may have a free run at Thuram as Football Insider are reporting that Newcastle have now ‘pulled the plug on their pursuit’ of him.
Monchengladbach are ‘considering selling’ this month so they avoid losing the forward for nothing in the summer.
Newcastle are now ‘prioritising other options’ even though Thuram is ‘available for as little as £6m due to his contract situation’.
