However, Erik ten Hag has a few absentees to contend with ahead of United's trip to Tyneside.

GK: David de Gea - Has the odd faux pas here and there when trying to play out from the back but still makes enough saves to justify his starting spot.

RB: Diogo Dalot - Injury and fitness problems have seen Aaron Wan-Bissaka fill in at right back, but Dalot's attacking threat makes him a more enticing option.

CB: Raphael Varane - Had some time to rest his bones during the break, having retired from France duty after the World Cup.

CB: Lisandro Martinez - Travelled across the globe for international duty with Argentina, making a substitute appearance against Panama.

LB: Luke Shaw - Is playing some excellent football again and an agreement in principle was recently reached over a new four-year contract.

CM: Marcel Sabitzer - The absences of Casemiro through suspension and Christian Eriksen through injury make Sabitzer's role that bit more important. Scott McTominay could start ahead of the Austrian after scoring four goals for Scotland during the break.

CM: Fred - Fred is more certain of a starting spot, having impressed in spots this season with his improved goalscoring record.

RW: Antony - Still needs to add more end product to his game but did have a largely positive influence off the bench in the chaotic 3-1 FA Cup victory over Fulham.

AM: Bruno Fernandes - Started both of Portugal's games during the international break, assisting one of Cristiano Ronaldo's goals against Luxembourg.

LW: Marcus Rashford - Withdrew from the England squad but is back in training and Ten Hag hopes to have the in-form forward available again.
