Manchester United are poised to make the ‘strongest move’ to land Sunderland talent Chris Rigg, who is also wanted by Arsenal and Newcastle United, according to the Northern Echo.
Rigg is part of Sunderland’s first team squad at the Stadium of Light and has played for the first team regularly this term despite being just 16 years old.
Sunderland are desperate to keep hold of Rigg and he did pen a scholarship deal last summer, but cannot pen a professional deal until June, when he turns 17.
A host of clubs are hugely keen on Rigg, including Arsenal, Newcastle, Manchester United and sides in Germany.
However, it is Manchester United who are now poised to make the ‘strongest move’ for Rigg as they seek to take him to Old Trafford.
Manchester United want to start scooping up the brightest British talent and are keen to see off competition to capture Rigg.
Sunderland would receive compensation if Rigg does move on this summer, set by a tribunal, if a fee cannot be agreed between the buying club and the Black Cats.
Rigg, a midfielder, made 21 appearances in the Championship over the course of this season and scored twice.
