Man Utd players past and present pay tribute to Diego Maradona after icon’s death | OneFootball

Tributes have been pouring in for football icon Diego Maradona, who has passed away aged 60.

As per BBC Sport, Maradona died after suffering a cardiac arrest in his home in Buenos Aires.

The Argentina legend had been recuperating from the removal of a blood clot on the brain earlier in November.

Maradona is considered one of the game’s greatest ever players, and famously guided his country to World Cup glory in 1986.

The former attacking midfielder represented Argentina in four World Cup’s, including one as manager, and ended his playing career for his nation with 34 goals in 91 appearances.

‘The King of Naples’ also inspired Napoli to their first ever Serie A title in 1987 and their second three years later.

Maradona defined his era in so many ways and will be remembered as arguably the most skilful footballer to ever live.

Manchester United great Bryan Robson, who featured against Maradona’s Barcelona in the memorable 1984 European Cup Winners’ Cup third-round tie, paid tribute to the best player of his generation.

What a player he was – undoubtedly the best of his era and up there with the likes of Pele among the greatest ever,” Robson told Manutd.com

“He won the 1986 World Cup for Argentina more or less on his own. The football he played and the goals he scored in that tournament were unbelievable.
