Manchester United are set to be in for a ‘busy summer’ as incoming boss Erik ten Hag ‘must’ prioritise strengthening his striker options after moving into the Old Trafford dugout, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Ten Hag, who is currently in charge of Dutch giants Ajax, has been confirmed as the Red Devils’ chief from the end of the season.

Who have Man United been linked with?

He may not be in the red half of Manchester yet, but it has been revealed that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, Brighton & Hove Albion star Yves Bissouma and Ajax defender Jurrien Timber are high on ten Hag’s list of targets.

Meanwhile, Spanish sources have claimed Manchester United have been boosted in their pursuit of Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong.

The report suggests the Catalan giants are willing to offload the 40-cap Netherlands international if a bid worth £58million is lodged.

Christopher Nkunku has also been the subject of interest from the Red Devils, but current employers RB Leipzig would reportedly prefer to hold onto their star man for one more season before sanctioning his departure in 2023.

What has Pete O’Rourke said about the situation?

O’Rourke believes Manchester United are going to be involved in plenty of dealings when the transfer window reopens.

The journalist feels ten Hag needs to prioritise welcoming a new striker to Old Trafford.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Erik ten Hag is going to have a big, long list of potential transfer targets to try and rebuild this Manchester United squad.

“The obvious links will be with players that he has worked with before at Ajax. A new manager always likes to work with players that he knows, he can trust and they can help implement his new playing style into his new side.

“I think a new forward is also a must for Manchester United, with the likes of Edinson Cavani set to leave and doubts continuing to surround the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, so it will be a busy summer for ten Hag and I’m sure they will be in the market for quite a few players.”

Who could leave Man United?

Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Cavani, Juan Mata and Lee Grant are all set to exit Manchester United when their respective contracts expire at the end of the season.

Defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic has also announced that he will leave the Red Devils in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones have reportedly told their team-mates that they will move onto pastures new in the summer.
