Manchester United transfer news – Dani Olmo

With Olmo’s contract set to expire in less than 18 months, RB Leipzig are believed to be getting twitchy about the 24-year-old’s future. When quizzed about this himself, Olmo insisted he is focused on his football with Leipzig and isn’t considering a move away, right now.

In an interview with Bild, Olmo claimed he was focused on trying to “play for titles again”, having won last season’s DFB Pokal with Leipzig, but did admit a move away from Germany might be around the corner.

It comes amid growing interest in the attacking midfielder, with Chelsea just one club reported to have inquired about the 24-year-old’s signature (Daily Mail).

Barcelona are another team who were reportedly keen, with reports suggesting the Catalan giants were eyeing up a £40 million summer move.

However, as per a report in Spanish outlet Nacional (via Football365), United are also keen on landing Olmo’s services, with the Red Devils having already placed an offer.

According to the report, Olmo – who pockets a reported £68,000 a week – has already been approached by United and has an offer on the table, not only from the Manchester-based Premier League side, but also from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

What has Christian Falk said about Olmo to United?

In an interview with GMS, Falk, who has a transfer column for CaughtOffside, revealed United’s interest in Olmo was genuine, hinting they could make a move.

On Olmo’s rumoured switch to Old Trafford, Falk said: “Yeah, Manchester United are still watching him, of course.

“Leipzig are hopeful to get Olmo on a new contract. He didn’t sign now, so they’re getting a little bit nervous because he could want to change leagues.”

What would Olmo offer United’s attack?

At just 24 years old, Olmo has plenty of time to develop as a footballer, but he already possesses a number of qualities that make him a worthwhile option for Erik ten Hag’s attack.

Olmo is a technically gifted footballer, capable of scoring goals and creating them too – something United have lacked at times this season.

Since arriving at Leipzig in 2020, Olmo has registered over 40 goal contributions for the Bundesliga side, indicating he’s a clear creative threat.

What’s more, Olmo also offers a multitude of traits that would make him a useful option to United, not least his versatile dribbling ability.

While not his strongest attribute by any means, Olmo ranks inside the top 20% of dribbles completed per 90 minutes for attacking midfielders and wingers, averaging over two each match, according to Fbref.
