According to The Athletic, United have earmarked tying Rashford - who pockets a reported £225,000 per week - down to a long-term deal at Old Trafford as a priority in the coming months.

The Red Devils recently exercised an optional one-year extension in Rashford's deal, the report reads, which has prevented him from leaving United as a free agent at the end of the season.

It came amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain, as per The Athletic, with club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi claiming during the World Cup break that the Ligue 1 giants were keen on snapping Rahsford up.

Despite the one-year extension, outside interest in Rashford remains, with United desperate to tie Rashford down to a long-term deal.

Speaking on the issue last month, boss Erik ten Hag labelled PSG's reported interest as a sign United were doing "a good job" and claimed Rashford recognised the Stretford-based outfit were "his club" (via The Athletic).

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently told GMS that United have spoken to Rashford's family in a bid to get the forward to commit to a new contract, with new suggestions indicating a fresh deal is just around the corner.

What has Rudy Galetti said about Rashford's contract situation at United?

Speaking in an interview with GMS, journalist Galetti insisted Rashford was unlikely to leave United any time soon.

On the 25-year-old, Galetti claimed: "Based on what I know, Marcus Rashford is close to extending his contract with Manchester United.

"The Red Devils put a deal on the table, a long-term future proposal with his current salary.

"Rashford is now convinced that he's making the right choice to renew at Manchester United, as confirmed by Erik ten Hag a few weeks ago.”

Is Rashford deserving of a new deal at United?

Absolutely. Rashford is currently enjoying the form of his life, having contributed to 26 goals in 31 appearances for United so far this season (Transfermarkt).

As a result of his strong showings, former United striker Louis Saha claimed Rashford is currently a "Ballon d’Or contender" (Boylesports via Daily Mirror).

In truth, it's difficult to argue against that, with Rashford's performances matched by his impressive WhoScored rating.

According to the online football database, Rashford is ranked as United's third-best performer this season, with his time on the pitch only bettered by midfield duo Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.
