Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Diogo Dalot will have a role to play for his team this season.

Dalot was desperate to join AC Milan in a permanent transfer after a successful loan at San Siro last season.

But Solskjaer decided to keep the 22-year-old, who may get more opportunities in Europe after Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sent off against Young Boys on Tuesday.

"Yeah, Diogo has had a very good summer of course, being called up into the Euros, he did well for Portugal Under-21s," said Solskjaer when asked why he had kept Dalot.

"He had a season that he learned a lot from in Milan, he kept fit, that was a big thing, and he's got qualities we will look to try and exploit more and more.

"He's got more experience, and we're not here to just loan players out for years and years, last year's loan was to give him that experience, game time and I think he did well when he came on the other night."
