Manchester United are eyeing a new defensive midfielder before the transfer deadline, but there is a possibility that they could also strengthen another position.

The Red Devils are in advanced talks with Panathinaikos over the sale of Facundo Pellistri, while Jadon Sancho’s future is also hanging in the balance.

Sancho was left out of the matchday squad for the season opener against Fulham and Juventus have recently enquired about his current position.

According to today’s edition of Sport, Juventus star Federico Chiesa has received offers from both United and Chelsea, but he has yet to reach any agreement.

The Italy international is evaluating other options and is attracted by La Liga.

Barcelona are studying an offer for Chiesa with a new winger considered a priority. Chiesa could leave the Bianconeri for just £13 million.

United speculation on Chiesa could be agent-driven

Chiesa, who was described as ‘world-class‘ by former Italian defender Alessandro Pierini, has the ability to play on either flank.

He can also operate from the second striker role. This has been his regular position over the past year.

Despite his versatility, United are unlikely to make an approach. The club are loaded with options in the wide attacking department despite the uncertainty over Sancho’s future.

Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony are competing for places on the right wing. Garnacho can also play on the other flank and can provide competition to Marcus Rashford.

With four solid options in the squad, the club don’t need another wide player. Chiesa can play up front, but the former Fiorentina star has lost some pace since his serious knee injury.

He has personally admitted that the setback has slowed him down. With Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund already in the first-team squad, Chiesa is not needed.

The speculation could be agent-driven in order to push Barcelona into making a quick decision.
