Manchester United finally appear to be edging closer to making their second signing of the summer transfer window.

United’s astute move for Donny van de Beek drew praise for supporters with the club proving they can be shrewd, rather than just getting exploited in the transfer market.

But the inactivity since has been worrying, particularly given the slow start to the season which has reinforced where the main vulnerabilities lie.

The Reds now have one week remaining before the exhausting, frustrating, window ends but there could be some positive news for supporters before the October 5 deadline.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed on Sunday evening that there has been a breakthrough in attempts to sign FC Porto left-back Alex Telles.

Left-back has been highlighted as one of the key areas that need addressing with competition for Luke Shaw necessary in the new campaign.

According to Romano, United and Telles have reached an agreement on personal terms, as well as last details and agents commission.

It is noted that the club are still in talks with Porto about a fee for the player, but it now looks like Telles has his heart set on a move to Old Trafford.

United are now one step closer to completing the transfer of the exciting attacking full-back but have a ‘plan B’ in place if a deal cannot be agreed with Porto.

It’s important United don’t let this transfer fall through as the 27-year-old Brazilian can offer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer new options in defence.

Romano also provided supporters with an update on the tiresome pursuit of Borussia Dortmund starlet Jadon Sancho.

Unfortunately, there has been little progress in the deal with Dortmund insisting on a €120m transfer fee and United still yet to make an official offer.
