According to reports, Man Utd and Chelsea have ‘made the final decision’ to ‘cool their interest’ in Victor Osimhen as a result of his £150m price tag.

Osimhen has emerged as a potential target for Premier League clubs. He scored 26 goals in 32 league games for Napoli in 2022/23 as he helped the Italian outfit lift the Serie A title.

The Nigeria international is under contract until 2025 so Napoli are able to demand a huge fee for their prized asset and TEAMtalk re reporting that they want as much as £150m for the forward.

His price tag is said to have put off Man Utd and Chelsea as they are ‘ready to end their interest in Osimhen’.

The two Premier League clubs are now ‘exploring moves for alternative targets’ and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson could be a target following his emergence for the Seagulls.

The 18-year-old grabbed six goals and two assists in his 19 appearances for Roberto De Zerbi’s side during the 2022/23 campaign.

Ex-United player Paul Parker “would definitely look” at Ferguson but he has made the “right decision” to sign a new contract at Brighton until 2028.

“Everyone knows that Man United needs a centre forward and I would look at Evan Ferguson for that position. I would definitely look at him,” Parker told Apostagolos.

“But with the way he is performing at Brighton, I think the right decision for him would be to stay at Brighton. He will get a lot of games there and they are using him in the right way.

“He is an Irish boy, so I don’t know which side they are backing, whether it’s Liverpool or Manchester United. If it is Manchester United, their chances of signing are very high and a lot of fans would be screaming for him to come.”

Parker has also argued that Ferguson would be a better value signing than Osimhen as “people would expect” the Napoli man “to score lots of goals immediately”.

“He is very young and you can really work with him. But if he were to come, we need to remember that they can’t just throw him in and tell him to score a lot of goals. They would have to be patient with him but he would be a very good signing,” Parker added.

“People say that Brighton isn’t going to sell him but they got him for a very small fee and everyone, including De Zerbi, knows that Brighton are going to sell him if the right offer arrives at the table.

“So, Evan Ferguson is the one I’m looking at if Man United aren’t going out to spend a crazy amount of money.

“Everyone are talking about Victor Osimhen but if Man United sign him for the fee that has been written in the media, people would expect him to score a lot of goals immediately and help Man United to win the league in the next season. I don’t want to put that pressure on him and that’s not the road Man United should go down right now.”
