Man Utd and Liverpool are ready to ramp up their pursuit of Napoli defender Kim Min-jae in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The South Korea international has been in impressive form for Napoli this season after moving to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium from Fenerbahce for around €18m in the summer.

Napoli are currently on track to comfortably win the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years with Luciano Spalletti’s side 19 points clear of second-placed Lazio.

And if a number of the transfer rumours are true then the Italian champions-elect could be decimated in the summer with Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia among the other players linked with big-money moves.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is normally an extremely tough negotiator but he will have no power if Man Utd or Liverpool trigger Kim’s release clause in the summer.

And that’s exactly what both the Premier League sides are planning to do with Italian journalist Ciro Venerato explaining their interest.

Venerato told Tg Sport (via Sport Witness): “Dialogues with his entourage began several weeks ago. Napoli are willing to offer €2.5m/year + €500k in simple bonuses to the defender. Possibly getting rid of the release clause as well. Focusing on the player’s desire, who is very attached to the team and the city. A way as any to keep him at least another season.

“The agency that takes care of his images and interests are much more buyable and are offering him to various continental clubs. Liverpool, Manchester United and PSG are the ones most interested, ready to guarantee him €5m net per season by paying the release clause, which fluctuates between €50-70m.

“The final figure (of the clause) is linked to the club’s turnover and participation in the Champions League.”

Speaking after South Korea drew 2-2 against Colombia in an international friendly on Friday, Kim dismissed rumours that he will leave Napoli in the summer as “nonsense”.

Kim said: “As you know, those rumours are not true at all. I want to focus on my team. I have many tournaments to play.

“It’s been four or years I have had these rumours. It’s uncomfortable. I wish you don’t spread those stories.

“I cannot be bothered by transfer rumours because they aren’t true. Now I’m focusing on the team, rather than that kind of nonsense.

“There are so many important matches to go and right now I only want to focus on Napoli.”
