Which English football club has the best atmosphere?
It’s a question that has been debated among football fans for years and years.
It’s incredibly difficult to answer definitively.
However, one football fan who claims to have been to all 92 Premier League and Football League stadiums has given it a good go.
He's ranked all 92 clubs (although only included 88 in his Tiermaker) into six tiers based on his personal experience of their atmosphere.
The ranking is bound to cause plenty of debate but, remember, this is based on his own experience so it's difficult to argue with.
Poor old MK Dons have a tier of their own. The League One side play at Stadium MK which has a capacity of 30,500. However, they averaged just 9,314 last season. Having been founded in 2004, it's probably not too much of a surprise.
The biggest name in the 'Tinpot' tier is Liverpool. Anfield is often renowned for having one of the best atmospheres in world football on its day. However, it clearly wasn't atmospheric when this football fan visited. Bournemouth and Fulham are also Premier League clubs that find themselves in this tier.
The most populated tier involving some pretty big clubs. Manchester United and Chelsea. Premier League clubs Brighton, Southampton, Brentford (Griffin Park) and Aston Villa are also included.
Average home support, you'll never sing that.
All these clubs can be satisfied with being middle of the road. They can be loud on their day but can also be a tad quiet. Everton are the only Premier League club included. The atmosphere at Goodison Park was a big reason why they managed to stay in the top-flight last season but that's not always the case.
There are certainly a few contentious inclusions in the 'Good atmosphere' category. Arsenal's Emirates has been bouncing this season but hasn't historically been considered loud. Meanwhile, Man City have often been mocked for not being able to sell out the Etihad but are included in the 'good' tier. Other Premier League clubs included are Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Leicester Newcastle, Tottenham and West Ham.
So, five clubs are deserving of the top tier and the 'Great atmosphere' - they are Portsmouth, Bolton, Sunderland, Leeds and Sheffield United.
Only Leeds are playing in the top flight but the four others having been relegated from the top flight previously. However, they remain big and well-supported clubs despite now playing in the Football League.
