Manchester United and Liverpool are among the sides tracking Lyon midfielder Rayan Cherki with a view to a cut-price summer transfer, a report has claimed.

Cherki, still only 21 but with close to 200 appearances for Lyon to his name, is enjoying a sensational individual campaign which has seen many claim he is set to come good on sky-high potential which was identified during his teenage years.

He has 30 goals involvements - 12 goals and 18 assists - in 39 appearances across all competitions this season, including goals in each leg of the Europa League quarter-final defeat to United this month.

The Mail state United are joined by Liverpool in keeping a close eye on Cherki, who will enter the final 12 months of his contract and has a verbal agreement to leave Lyon for a fee of just £25m this summer.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also named as suitors for a player who was close to joining Borussia Dortmund last summer before ultimately signing a 12-month extension which reportedly brought with it the promise of a sale this year.

Concerns around Cherki have revolved around his attitude on the pitch, with many fearful that a player with such natural ability could fall short of expectations because of a perceived lack of maturity or work ethic.

Nearly half of his total goal involvements across his entire spell with Lyon have come this season, and there is hope among his suitors that Cherki has taken the next step needed to make an impact with an elite side.

While he may still represent a risk, there is no denying that the allure of a £25m price tag for a 21-year-old of Cherki's talent could represent an enormous bargain in a grossly inflated market. United, for example, have been quoted £100m to sign Southampton winger Tyler Dibling after one full season of senior football which ended in relegation.
