Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United has been thrown into doubt after it was revealed that his representatives have held talks with Chelsea over a possible transfer.

United have insisted that the 37-year-old will remain at the club for the final year of his contract, with Erik ten Hag planning for the Portuguese international to spearhead his new-look side.

Now, United have been linked with a shock move for Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar Jr, who is considering leaving the French giants.

That’s according to RMC, who add that the tricky attacker is not certain to stay in the French capital, with both the player and club leaving the door open to a departure.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the PSG president, was asked about Neymar’s possible departure earlier this month and refused to rule it out.

“A possible departure of Neymar this summer? What I can tell you is that we expect all players to do a lot more than last season,” he told Le Parisien.

“A lot more! They all have to be 100%. Obviously, we weren’t good enough to go far. For next season, the objective is clear: to work every day at 200%. To give everything we have for this jersey, give the maximum and we will see the result.

“You have to become humble again. You have to change to avoid injuries, suspensions and fouls that change a game.”

Al-Khelaifi’s comments are said to have been poorly received by Neymar, who felt targeted by the remarks. The 30-year-old was not planning on leaving Paris this summer but on the back of his president’s comments, he is now open to a move.

As per the report, finding suitors will be difficult as the Brazilian superstar is one of the best-paid players in the world and there are few clubs than can afford to home him. Furthermore, he has three years remaining on his contract in Paris.

United are, however, linked with a move for the former Barcelona star. Should Ronaldo leave the club this summer, it’s claimed that United are his most realistic destination in the Premier League, with Chelsea also named.

SN’s verdict… A move for Neymar would undeniably shatter United’s transfer record and their wage structure, making this highly unlikely. United are already scrambling to fill a €10m gap in valuations over Frenkie de Jong’s transfer from Barcelona.

Furthermore, at 30, Neymar will struggle to find any club willing to match his wages at PSG and it remains to be seen whether the Parisians are willing to let their star man leave.
