Man Utd are keen on signing Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak next summer as a replacement for David de Gea, according to reports.

The Slovenia international has been a reliable pair of hands for the La Liga outfit over the past nine seasons following a €16m move from Benfica in 2014.

He has been linked with a move away from Madrid for a number of years but a move has never materialised because of the huge price tags put on his head.

Man Utd goalkeeper De Gea has been amazing in the past for the Red Devils, winning several Player of the Year awards at Old Trafford – but his performances have dipped at times over the last couple of campaigns.

Dean Henderson, who has gone on loan to Nottingham Forest this term, usurped De Gea in net during the 2020/21 campaign but Spaniard won his place back last season.

However, now Man Utd are reportedly looking to replace the goalkeeper as Erik ten Hag continues to shape his squad at Old Trafford.

Earlier this week, Spanish publication Fichajes claimed that Atletico Madrid ‘will sell’ Oblak this winter for the ‘laughable price’ of €30m with Man Utd ‘closely following him’.

AS insist that Man Utd are watching him ‘very closely’ and the Red Devils ‘see him as a luxury replacement’ for De Gea and view him as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

The report from Spain adds that the Premier League club have ‘shown a fervent interest’ in the Athletico Madrid goalkeeper ‘in recent months’.

Roy Keane has been a critic of De Gea in the past and insisted during the summer transfer window that he would’ve potentially looked at a replacement for the Spaniard then.

The former Man Utd midfielder said on Sky Sports in July: “Off the top of my head it’s the midfield. They need some top-quality players in the middle. They need some physicality, some energy. That’s where I’d start.”

Keane added: “The whole core of the team needs improving… the full-backs, the striker and I’m not convinced with the goalkeeper either.”

Following one particularly bad performance from De Gea in 2020, Keane said: “I am sick to death of this goalkeeper.”
