Manchester United are ‘still working’ on trying to offload defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 24-year-old slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford after former interim manager Ralf Rangnick replaced Ole Gunner Solskjaer in November and he now appears to be surplus to requirements.

What is the latest news involving Wan-Bissaka?

Reports back in June claimed that Wan-Bissaka and fellow full-back Brandon Williams have been ‘urged to find new clubs’ by new boss Erik ten Hag.

It’s claimed that the Dutch tactician told the pair their ‘playing time would be limited’ if they stay at United, with Diogo Dalot cementing his status at the club’s first-choice right-back.

However, interest in Wan-Bissaka has been low. His former side Crystal Palace were reportedly contemplating making a move to sign him on a season-long loan deal, although a formal offer is yet to materialise.

A major issue in offloading the former England Under-21 international is his sizeable wages with his £90,000-per-week contract not expiring until the summer of 2024.

Therefore, offloading Wan-Bissaka is proving to be an extremely difficult task for United but not one they have given up hope of achieving just yet.

What has Jones said about Wan-Bissaka?

Ten Hag is believed to be eager to streamline his squad and sanction the sales of several fringe players within his first-team squad in order to raise funds for his transfer targets.

And Jones has informed GiveMeSport that ‘intermediaries’ are attempting to find a solution that helps both Wan-Bissaka and United ‘move on from this situation’.

He told GMS: Intermediaries are still working on that, still seeing if they can help the player and help the club move on from this situation. So yes, it’s one to keep an eye on.”

Who could United replace him with?

United have previously been credited with an interest in Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries and Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters as their search for a new right-back gathers pace.

The latest player to be linked with a move to the 20-time English champions is Barcelona’s Sergino Dest, who could be available in a cut-price deal.

Do you know this obscure player Manchester United signed in the January transfer window?

Spanish outlet Sport claim that Barca are willing to offload the USA international for a bargain fee of just £16.7 million and that United’s director of football John Murtough is looking to push that through as soon as possible.

Ten Hag is said to have given his approval over Dest’s potential arrival, but his capture could depend on Wan-Bissaka finding pastures new.
